EXPECTATIONS

  • Case prep:

    • Both the senior and junior are expected to be familiar with all the cases in their room that day since cases can gest switched or there can be delays in the schedule. If you are with another resident, you can coordinate who comes up with the plan for each case, based on the scheduled start time and how that will be relayed to your attending. (For example, if there are 3 cases in a room scheduled for 07:15, 10:00, and 13:00, the senior could come up with the plan for the first two cases and the jnior can come up with the plan for the third case since they will likely be starting that.)

  • Room setup:

    • Whoever is scheduled to start the first case (resident/fellow/anesthetist) will be responsible to set p the room in the morning. These rules also apply to cardiac since it was determined that there is little educational value to setting p a room and not starting the case.

  • Attendance:

    • Be there. This is protected time. Even if there is a wellness/study day these 3 hours are still protected. If a coordinator messages you something along the lines of “please relieve in a room by 3:00pm”, you can respond with “education ends at 3:15pm and I will relieve them once education is over.”

    • Please let the Education Chief or Dr. Coyne know if anyone gives you pushback. There are obvious situations that will arise where you can miss/be late to education. (For example, if your patient is actively coding, that may not be the best time to sign out and leave.)
